The drummer and composer Makaya McCraven represents global jazz culture in a period of rejuvenation of a sound that he himself has called "organic beat music”. Bebop, hip-hop and R&B flow through the compositions of this Paris-born musician raised in Massachusetts, where he studied jazz, and whose musical development took place in Chicago. His latest album, 'Universal Beings', was recorded in four different cities, New York, Los Angeles, London and Chicago, places where jazz is flourishing hand in hand with young and daring proposals.
21st-century jazz has found its big name in American saxophonist, Kamasi Washington. Acclaimed both for his recordings and live shows, Washington has united critics and audiences, lovers of classical jazz and newcomers. His ability to reinvent this music from his deep knowledge of jazz, incorporating sounds - psychedelia, funk, afro beat, soul or hip-hop – to enrich his performances, has attracted diverse audiences who are enthralled by his every show.
